    1. COSOWAM welcomed Dr. Susanna Wu-Pong, member of the VCU Equity and Diversity Committee, Chair, Subcommittee on Climate.
      1. This committee is composed of six subcommittees including the Climate subcommittee. This subcommittee meets once a month and includes staff and faculty representatives of the whole university. It evaluates the climate of the university and makes recommendations to the Provost on how to improve equity and diversity university-wide. The subcommittee is currently in charge of creating a diversity plan for the whole university. It was suggested that COSOWAM could be included in this new diversity plan.
      2. The Provost received permission from the President to perform a university-wide survey on diversity. It has been 11 years since the last university-wide survey. This survey will allow the committee to determine in which direction to proceed. It was mentioned that the Provost shows commitment and willingness to provide funds for this effort.
  1. COSOWAM Study: WIM Benchmarking – Dr. Saba Masho, Diane Bishop, Carol HamptonReview of data in advance to present to the Dean and Chairs presenttion
The purpose of the benchmarking study is to describe the status of Women and Minority faculty at the VCU School of Medicine and compare VCU SOM data to national averages and examine trends.  The overall goal is to foster career development for all faculty and especially women and minorities still underrepresented in leadership.  The presenters thanked everyone such as the Dean’s Office (Ms. Meenu Tolani, Ms. Ann Setien) and Ms. Carol Hampton, who helped with the study. The presentation will be taken to the Dean the following day and to the Department Chairs in a month.  The Office of Faculty and Instructional Development provided $4,000 to the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology to help fund the study.

The members reviewed the PowerPoint presentation and provided their input. The presentation entailed a one and a half hour discussion including suggestions and recommendations to enhance the delivery of the presentation.
  2. Reminder:  Register for WISDOM conference: March 17th
