Call for nominations: 16th Annual Professional Achievement Award.

The WISDM Professional Achievement Award is presented annually by the Women in Science, Dentistry, and Medicine (WISDM) Faculty Organization, VCU School of Medicine, MCV Campus. This unique award was established in 1993 to acknowledge the special contributions and accomplishments of women faculty in the School of Medicine. The primary purpose of this award is to recognize those women who have served as strong role models and mentors for the professional development of women faculty and who consistently demonstrate qualities that show excellence in one or more of the areas listed below:
- Success as a mentor and role model; promoter of the professional development of women
- Professional excellence: to include accomplishments in whichever primary arena (clinical, basic sciences, etc.)
- Leadership: includes university administrative duties as well as other leadership roles
- Scholarly endeavors
- Teaching expertise
School of Medicine: Nominations are solicited annually from all School of Medicine faculty members and should include a 1-2 page biosketch and between 3 and 10 support letters from supervisors, faculty, trainees, and/or students. Previous nominations may be updated and resubmitted. The letters should be addressed to Dr. Mary Helen Hackney, WISDM President, and all materials sent to Debbie Stewart at P.O. Box 980565, fax 828-4048, or by e-mail dstewart@vcu.edu. The award will be presented at the annual WISDM Pathways to Leadership Conference, March 21, 2008, MCV Campus, and at the 2008 SOM Faculty Excellence Awards next fall. Nominations are sought for SOM women faculty only.
School of Dentistry: The VCU School of Dentistry also has a WISDM award and manages their selection process separately. Please contact Betsy Hagan, DDS, Senior Associate Dean, 828-6072 or by e-mail at bahagen@vcu.edu for criteria and selection process.
All faculty members in the schools of medicine and dentistry are invited to submit nominations to their respective schools. The awards will be notified in time to accept the award at the 16th Annual WISDM Pathways to Leadership Conference on Friday, March 21, 2008.
